Desmond King had last been arrested by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department on June 18 for possession of fentanyl and was jailed on $60,000 bond ahead of an August 1 court date.
He was a passenger in a car which was stopped by Officer A. Green. The driver fled after stopping for the officer on Gordon Drive.
Narcotics Captain A.M. Harris said shortly before noon today he conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a hotel and the 23-year-old King was identified as the driver.
Harris noticed a container of marijuana inside the vehicle.
During the search with assistance of agents D.J. Epperson, D.R. Radford and D.W. McKeel, more than 6 grams of heroin was seized along with marijuana and items of drug paraphernalia.
Harris said the threshold for a heroin trafficking count is 4 grams.
The captain described King as a reputed mid-level heroin dealer in the Roanoke Rapids area.
King was arrested and charged with trafficking heroin by transport, trafficking heroin by possession, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.
He received a $100,000 cash bond with an August 22 court date.
King has 27 charges pending charges in Halifax County District Court which are related to heroin, cocaine, marijuana and traffic-related offenses.
Some cases are set for court on Wednesday and August 15.
