On Saturday, June 1, Downtown Enfield Restoration & Preservation will sponsor the annual Fishing Creek Paddle.

Registration for the Fishing Creek Paddle begins at 8 a.m. and runs through 8:30 a.m. at Bellamy Mill. The push-off is at 9 a.m.

“Fishing Creek is the largest tributary of the Tar River and is one of Halifax County’s secret treasures,” DERP said. “The North Carolina Department of Water Quality documented that the ‘water quality in this rural subbasin is excellent’ and ‘streams within the Fishing Creek Subbasin and associated riparian habitat support significantly rare fish, mussels, and plants in addition to the Tar spinymussel and dwarf wedgemussel.’”

Fishing Creek, in particular, is a designated nationally significant aquatic natural heritage area.

The two-and-a-half paddle starts at Bellamy Mill at the dam on Fishing Creek in Enfield.

Refreshments will be served during registration and complimentary picnic lunch will be served when the paddle ends.
