Ernest Layton “Peanut Man” Newsome, 80, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at Magnolia Gardens Senior Care.

A native of Halifax County, Ernest was the son of the late Walter and Alma Newsome.

He was known around Roanoke Rapids for riding his bicycle around town selling peanuts, earning the nickname “Peanut Man.”

He was also very active in the Davie Lion’s Club, enjoying selling tickets for the many fundraisers the Club had.

A gentle and caring person, he will be missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Ernest’s life will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 6:00 P.M. at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Tony Smith officiating.
