Julia Curtis Butler, 95, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A native of Halifax County, Julia was born to the late John and Myrtle Gillis on December 27, 1923 and spent much of her life in Roanoke Rapids. 

An avid reader, masterful in the kitchen and a lover of God, family and life, Julia was an inspiration and touched the hearts of all who knew and loved her.  

Her beloved late husband Frank as well as many friends and family who preceded her in death undoubtedly welcomed her to Heaven with open arms.  

Julia is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Frankie and Jane Butler of Roanoke Rapids and Steve and Trilby Butler of Greenville, NC.  

She adored and with every opportunity spoiled her Grandchildren (and spouses) who are Jennifer (Darryl) Clemmons, Pam (Kevin) King, Johnnie (Lynnette) Butler, Chris (Amy) Butler, and Matthew (Dani) Butler.  Great grandchildren also held a special place in Julia’s heart. Josh, Andrew, Katie, Jacob, Hailey, and Daniel plus great great grandchild Avery will miss her and those celebratory notes she liked to send for special occasions. 

Julia was preceded in death by husband Frank Butler; brothers Frank Gillis, Raymond Gillis, and Charlie Gillis; and sisters Pearl Jordan and Grace Key.

The family will receive friends at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service on 1015 West Fifth Street in Roanoke Rapids on Thursday June 27, 7:00-8:30 PM.  Funeral Services will be in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday June 28 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Donnie Gillis and the Rev. Andy Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers and in recognition of the compassionate care provided by the 3rd floor staff, the family requests donations be made to the Halifax Regional Medical Center Foundation 250 Smith Church Road Roanoke Rapids, NC. 27870.
