Hantz named RRGSD teacher of the year

Chaloner Middle School teacher Tina Hantz was named the Roanoke Rapids Graded District Teacher of the Year Tuesday night during the district’s annual Celebration of Excellence banquet at Kirkwood Adams Community Center.  

A Roanoke Rapids man was charged today after he was reportedly observed in a parking lot of the high school setting a small pile of trash on fire.

Manning readers score big with 'Canes

Manning Elementary students were treated to an afternoon of games and prizes from the Carolina Hurricanes and mascot Stormy.   

A familiar face has been tapped to lead the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District’s early college program.  

Roanoke Rapids High School Senior Alison Chau is the recipient of this year’s Ethel  Crawley Scholarship giving her a free undergraduate education to the college of her choice.  

Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Trustees, Halifax Community College and Halifax County commissioners cut the ribbon Sunday afternoon on the new Roanoke Rapids Early College High School at the former Armory building next to the historic Roanoke Rapids High School.  

The majority of capital needs within the city school system are at Roanoke Rapids High School, officials said at a joint meeting with Halifax County commissioners this evening.

Halifax commissioners have two special meetings set thus far to begin discussions on possible updated capital improvement plans with the three school systems in the county.

Belmont aids in Angel's Closet holiday ministry

Angel’s Closet is already slated to help 800 children this Christmas and a donation of 400 stuffed animals from Belmont Elementary School will aid in the effort.
