A Garysburg man faces marijuana sales counts following a Friday raid in Garysburg on Highway 46.

Maquell Powell, 28, was charged by the Northampton County Sheriff's Office with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI; felony possession for sale of marijuana and maintaining place to keep a controlled substance.

Captain Chuck Hasty said in a statement officers seized 110 grams of marijuana following the search warrant execution, which was issued following an investigation by Lieutenant A.J. Thomas and Investigator Bonja Wood. That investigation was prompted by information the officers obtained.

Powell received a $10,000 bond.

Garysburg Police Chief Melvin Garner and Captain James Avens and Sergeant Lee Mason of the Weldon Police Department, along with Mason's dog Rio, assisted.

“We will have a combined effort to fight the illegal drug trade in Northampton County. The sheriff’s office will work with all local, state and federal agencies to try to fight the drug trade in Northampton County,” Sheriff Jack Smith said in the statement.
