Northampton, Halifax evening storm updates

The Northampton County Emergency Operations Center advises county residents to make immediate preparations for potentially severe weather resulting from Hurricane Florence.

As of 6 p.m. the National Weather Service predicts tropical storm force winds resulting from Hurricane Florence will begin impacting Northampton County this evening, persisting through the night and continuing Friday.

Rainfall in Northampton County from Hurricane Florence is currently forecast to be 4 to 5 inches and may be locally heavier.

The Northampton County Emergency Operations Center advises residents living in low-lying areas subject to flooding and those living in mobile homes susceptible to wind damage to seek shelter in more substantial structures.

Senior citizens, those with small children and those who have special care needs should consider relocating to a secure location.

The Northampton County Emergency Operations Center has activated three primary shelters Shelter facilities are located at:  

The Wellness Center 9536 NC 305 Highway, Jackson, NC 27845  

Northampton County High School, 152 Hurricane Drive, Gaston, NC 27832  

Conway Middle School, 400 East Main Street, Conway, NC 27820

Northampton County Government offices will be closed Friday.

Halifax County

A state of emergency is in effect in Halifax County.

There is no curfew or any other restriction in unincorporated areas of the county.

For citizens in the towns of Littleton, Scotland Neck, and Enfield curfews are in effect for overnight hours.

Littleton

The following restrictions are in effect in Littleton:

There is a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Only emergency travel and travel to and from work for mandated necessary employees will be allowed.

All alcohol sales have been suspended immediately and until the emergency has passed and the order removed.

Firearms sales are restricted.

Scotland Neck

The town of Scotland Neck will enforce a curfew starting tonight at 9 until 7 a.m. Friday and until further notice. This may change if weather this worsens.

The town of Scotland Neck has prohibited the sale of alcohol since 1 this afternoon.

You must have credentials and serving as an emergency worker to be on the streets after 9 p.m.

Enfield

Enfield’s curfew is contingent on sustained winds reaching 45 miles per hour. If sustained winds reach that point the town will turn off its power grid and a curfew will be in place through 6 a.m. Friday.
