Grady L. DeBerry Sr.

Grady L. DeBerry, Sr., age 85, of Gaston, NC, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Halifax  Regional Medical Center. 

He was born on September 4, 1932 in Northampton County to the late Joseph R. DeBerry and Susie Davis DeBerry. 

After serving in the National Guard, Grady spent twenty-five years in the concrete construction industry, working for the Ceco Corporation

He then retired from construction in 1988 and  ventured into the service industry, becoming the owner-operator of the Community Grocery in Gaston for eight years. 

However, in 1994, he returned to his roots and founded his own concrete construction company. Grady remained the CEO/owner of Concrete Services of Weldon, Inc. until his death. 

Always a staple in his community, Grady sought to help people in any way he could. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaston, as well as serving as Gaston Town Commissioner for nine years. 

Preceding Grady in death were his wife of twenty-eight years, Nancy Balmer DeBerry and a daughter, Glenda D. Dixon

Grady was a great father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Audrey L. DeBerry; sons, Grady L. DeBerry, Jr. (Kay), of Roanoke Rapids, Glenn E. DeBerry, of Gaston, Gary W. DeBerry (Susan), of Roanoke Rapids; stepson, David Dixon (Tarnrny), of Henrico; son-in-law, Roy Dixon, of Skippers, VA; a daughter, Phyllis D. Harper, of Emporia, VA; grandchildren, Lisa Miles, Stamie Tucker, Grady DeBerry, III, Jason DeBerry, Jonathan DeBerry, Joey Harper, Douglas Dixon, Daniel Dixon, Dustin DeBerry, Logan DeBerry, Landon DeBerry, Jamie Rios, and John Dixon; as well as his 13 great-grandchildren

Over the last few years, Grady also thought a lot of his caretakers: Megan Ard, Alesha Boyce, Megan Briggs, Kali Carter, Ashley Delbridge, Renee Evans, Kathy Freeman, Melissa Hale, Kim Harris, Barbara Jenkins, Wendy May, Ashley Morgan, Kellie Munn, Dee Tucker, Vikki Reid, Shirley Rose, and Olivia Williams, as well as his doctors, Dr. Reid Beaman and Dr. James Ketoff. 

A visitation for friends and family will be held at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral Home, 1015 W. 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC on Thursday, December 21,2017 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm and at other times at the residence. 
Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 22,2017 at 2:00 pm at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
