John Ransom Anderson, 77, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

John was born in Horry County, SC, the son of the late Wilton Durham Anderson and Edna Mincey Anderson. His son, John Michael Anderson, a sister, Kathleen Anderson and a brother Jimmy Anderson also preceded John in death.
John served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and retired from First Citizens and Southern Bank with 35 years of service. He started his financial career in Myrtle Beach, SC and later was transferred to Roanoke Rapids, NC. He served First Presbyterian Church as both a Deacon and an Elder.
Other memberships included Widow’s Son Lodge #519, AF & AM, Scottish Rite, a Shriner and an Auxiliary Policeman. His hobby was fishing with friends at Nags Head and Ocracoke.
After retirement he enjoyed his little tow truck and his LGB trains he suspended from his work shop to the deck. His greatest joy in life was being Dad to Mike, Michelle, Donna Marie, Chip and Greg.
Surviving are: his wife Marie Barnes Anderson; two daughters, Michelle Anderson Johnson and her husband Jim of Chesapeake, VA, Donna Marie Clifton Boles of Holly Springs, NC; two sons Chip Clifton and his wife Sharron of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Greg Clifton and his wife Donna of Nashville, NC; a brother Bill Anderson and his wife Pearl of Nichols, SC and seven grandchildren, Betsy Joyner and her husband Josh, Taylor Clifton, Abbey Clifton, Hunter Clifton, Elliott Boles, Grayson Boles, and Jackson Boles.
The family will receive Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, 1015 West Fifth Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, 2017, in First Presbyterian Church, at 11:00 AM, With Rev. Joe Sandoval officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: First Presbyterian Church or a charity of one’s choice.
