HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College freshman Sierra Hearp (Roanoke Rapids, NC / Roanoke Rapids High) has been named the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week and senior Megan Kelly has been tabbed the Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Hearp was honored after tossing a no-hitter in her collegiate debut as the Lady Bulldogs blanked Saint Augustine’s University, 8-0, in five innings. The Roanoke Rapids, N.C., resident walked the first batter of the game, then retired the remaining 15 batters she faced in order.

She struck out six batters along the way, including all three batters in the first inning after issuing the leadoff walk.

Hearp also homered in her first collegiate at-bat for the game’s first run, and went on to go 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.

She is the first Barton pitcher to receive the league’s weekly award since Liz White did so in 2015.

Kelly was recognized as the top player on offense after batting .667 with three extra-base hits, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in Barton’s two-game sweep of the Falcons.

The Plymouth, N.C., resident accounted for all three runs in the second contest, the final two on an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fifth that put the Lady Bulldogs into the lead in the 3-2 victory. Earlier in the contest, she delivered an RBI triple to provide BC’s first run of the contest.

Over the course of the two games, Kelly collected a single, a double, a triple and a home run.

Kelly is receiving the Player of the Week award for the third time in her career. She was first honored as a freshman in 2014, and was chosen again for the recognition last season.
