Kavon Phillips, the Operation Rockfish defendant who was charged with driving while impaired in Gates County, will be allowed to remain on pretrial release, according to an order filed in the federal court record.

United States Senior District Judge Malcolm J. Howard did attach two new conditions to the terms of his release as he awaits sentencing in the police corruption case.

Those conditions, according to the order filed Friday after his Thursday bond revocation hearing include he obtain a substance abuse assessment and follow any recommended treatment program and that he abstain from the use of alcohol and not frequent any establishment whose primary source of business is the service of alcohol.

The order does not go into specific detail on the reasoning behind Howard's decision.

Phillips is scheduled to appear in Gates County court on July 11 to answer to the charges, state court records show.
