Christmas in Halifax set Saturday

Colonial traditions will be rekindled during Christmas in Halifax Saturday.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m.

This event also marks the town's annual Christmas parade which steps off at 2 p.m. along King Street.

Throughout the day there will be tours of several of the historic site’s buildings, decorated with natural materials.

Live music will be performed by students of the Music School of Roanoke Rapids in the Tap Room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors can also tour other Halifax buildings and churches that are not regularly open to the public including: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church, the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception, and the Royal White Hart Masonic Lodge No. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The visitors center at the historic site will have complete schedules and maps. Businesses along King Street will be open and the Halifax County Library will show short holiday films from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa will be at the library at 11 a.m.

At 1 p.m., the KIPP-GCP School Pep Band will hold a concert in the town’s Mural Park on King Street. Preservation Halifax will serve cider and cookies in the Tap Room tavern.

Following the parade Santa Claus will be at The Hen and the Hog restaurant.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. a soup and sandwich lunch will be served at Halifax United Methodist Church as an annual fundraiser.
