He rarely talked to anyone he couldn’t make smile (or laugh out loud).

Anytime his name was mentioned, somebody (sometimes everybody) smiled.

He loved the Lord, his family, and his church. To him, every day was a good day - rain, snow, sleet, hail, or heat. He never talked bad about anyone. He would help anyone when it was possible.

He usually said “have a blessed day” at check-outs, or when leaving a conversation with acquaintances.

He loved Southern Gospel. He was a talented musician – could play guitar, bass, drums, piano, and harmonica. He couldn’t read a word of music but could pick out any song on the guitar. He wrote a few songs. He could sing – and did.

He and a group of others (Remnants and SONshine) regularly visited local nursing and rest homes, and have, over the years, participated in local fundraisers, and community events. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 United States and every continent at least once. He always said his favorite place was Maui. He will be missed by anyone who ever met him.

Mr. Vick enlisted in the US Army in 1954 and served until 1957. He was employed by the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department for 2 years and then served as a volunteer fireman for several years more. He retired as a sergeant from the NC Department of Corrections (Caledonia Unit) in 1994 with 29 yrs. of service, and from the Roanoke Rapids Walmart in 2017 after 21 years. In addition to these jobs, he had worked at several other jobs over the years.
