Sarah Vaughan Colston passed away peacefully on January 7, 2021.

She was born in Jackson, North Carolina to the late Vernon Russell Vaughan and Maude White Vaughan.  

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her five siblings.

Sarah was married to the late Ronald Lee Colston for 52 years and they raised their family in Gaston, N.C., where she remained an active member of the community for the rest of her life.  She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where she faithfully served in many capacities.

Mrs. Colston enjoyed a career in the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1986 as postmaster of Garysburg, N.C.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rebeca Dickens of New Bern, Joyce Clements and her husband Edward, of Gaston and Ann Harris of Roanoke Rapids, a beloved sister-in-law, Marie Vaughan of Wilson, NC; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend Frances McNair.

Memorial donations may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements are being handled by Wrenn, Clarke &Hagan Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with a graveside service being held on Saturday, January 16 at 11:00 am at Cedarwood Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Rick Russell.
