Mr. Ivey Ernest Gibson, Jr., 92, died Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Vidant North Hospital.

He was born in Halifax County on July 18, 1928, the son of Ivey E. Gibson, Sr. and Dora Mae Gregory Gibson; and was raised in the Darlington community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Wichard; and sisters, Frances and Jeanette.

Mr. Gibson served in the US Navy during World War II.  

Following the war, he worked as a recovery boiler operator until his retirement.  

Ivey liked to fish, watch NASCAR racing, and loved to ride.  One of his favorite things to do was watch westerns on TV, especially John Wayne and Marshall Dillon.

Mr. Gibson loved being a provider, and being with his family.  He also loved his church, Doors of Praise and Worship, in Gaston. 

He is survived by his children, Kim Gibson Wallace (Anthony), Dennis Gibson (Beth) and Lisa Gibson (Chad Hayhurst); grandchildren, Amy Williams (Jeffrey), Bryant Green, Kristina Wallace, Morgan Bishop, Dylan Gibson, Leanne Wichard and William Mead; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Chase, Emily, Jaxson, Brody, Zoey and Ivan; and his dogs, Sue Sue and Max.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Russ Collins presiding.  Interment, with military honors, will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.
