Jeremiah (Jerry) P. O’Connor Jr., 65, passed away peacefully at home in Roanoke Rapids, NC on March 17, 2020 after a courageous fight with COPD and Cancer.
Jerry was born the son of Margaret and Jeremiah O’Connor and raised as the son of Ted Schmidt.
He grew up in Peekskill, NY and attended Peekskill schools.
Jerry was an auto technician for over 50 years and had a passion for cars.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving his time in Germany from 1975-1977 during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his longtime partner and caregiver, fiancé Sheila Doughtie of the home in Roanoke Rapids, NC and his eight siblings: Kathleen (Kathy) O’Connor Barone (John) of Florida, Margaret (Peg) O’Connor Sgorbissa (John) of NY, Elizabeth (Liz) O’Connor of NY, Regina (Gina) O’Connor Burgos of NY, Michael Schmidt of NC, Peter Schmidt of NY, Kenneth Schmidt of NY and Kevin Schmidt (Amy) of NC. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews plus grand nieces and nephews.
Jerry was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
