John Beaird “J.B.” Smith 83, of Roanoke Rapids, died Friday February 15, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family.

“J.B.” a native of Halifax County was the son of the late Joe Billy and Cinderella Wood Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Acey Smith, Lynn Smith, Mack Ray Smith, and an infant brother James Herbert Smith.

He served his Country in the National Guard and United States Army Reserves. He was the Owner/Operator of J.B. Smith Trucking for 40 years until his retirement. After retirement he worked part time with MJ Price Construction for several years.

He was a member of New Testament Christian Church. He had a love for dirt track racing and drag strip racing with his motorcycle his entire life. His most favorite past time was being surrounded by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Harrison Smith; his daughter, Chris Moseley and her husband, Kevin of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren Cole Bullock and Cameron Moseley; his sisters, Josephine Myrick and Virginia Johnston and a sister in law Pauline Smith, all of Littleton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday February 18, 2019 at 3 P.M. at New Testament Christian Church with Rev. Daniel West officiating.

Interment will follow in the old Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Sunday February 17, 2019 from 3:30-5pm at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

The family would like to thank Virgie Clay, Reid Beaman, Halifax County Home Health and Hospice, New Testament Christian Church, and family and friends for all of their love and kindness shown during this time.
