James “Jim” Edward Carlton Warren, 89, died Monday December 2, 2019, in Raleigh, NC.

He was born October 8, 1930 in Weldon, NC to the late Wylie and Nellie Garner Warren. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wiley Warren and his nephew Gregory Warren. 

James graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School where he was President of the student body his senior year. He played basketball for three years, serving as team captain his senior year. 

He attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor's degree in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures. 

After serving two years in the United States Army, James returned to UNC-CH, 1955-56, obtaining a Certificate in Communications from the Graduate School. 

He was employed at WTAR-TV, Norfolk, Virginia, from 1956 to 1963. From 1963 until his retirement in 1988, James worked for the Department of the Army, Fort Eustis, Virginia as a visual Information Manager. During his retirement years, he volunteered with the Big Brothers program, the Literacy Program in Virginia and Florida and at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, NC. He was a volunteer and an active member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

James is survived by his sister-n-law, Della B. Warren and his nephews, Jeffery A. Warren and Michael O. Warren and families. He is also survived by his aunt, Mary Warren Maves of Edgerton, Wisconsin, and numerous cousins.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 12 noon at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina with Rev. Gregg McGarvey officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Smith United Methodist Church, Roanoke Rapids, Kitty Hawk United Methodist or The Roanoke Rapids High School Alumni and Friends Association 800 Hamilton Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
