The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following:

A Saturday morning search warrant execution led to the arrests of two men on weapons and drug charges.

The 6:15 a.m. search led to the arrests of Curnazzion Burgess, 24, and Clintonio Bowser, 48, of Straight Road.

Major Anzell M. Harris said numerous firearms, including several automatic weapons, approximately 5 grams of fentanyl, 98 dosage units of MDMA and approximately 126 grams of marijuana were seized in the raid carried out by the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division, the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and the Nash County Sheriff’s Office SWAT.

Harris described the action as a high-risk search warrant execution.

Both men were charged with six counts of possession of firearm by a convicted felon, four counts of possession of weapons of mass destruction, trafficking opioids, two counts possession with intent to sell schedule I controlled substance, two counts possession of schedule I, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony maintain a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They received $1 million bonds and Tuesday court dates.

“The sheriff’s office is dedicated to removing drugs and guns from our streets,” Sheriff Tyree Davis said. “We appreciate the partnership with local agencies including the Nash County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this high-risk search warrant. We will continue working together to build safer communities.”

Booze it & Lose It

During the Booze It & Lose It campaign deputies were out in different areas of the county to protect communities and roadways.  

The two-week campaign began on August 26 and ended Sunday.

During those two weeks deputies conducted seven traffic checkpoints and eight other events which included saturated patrols, speeding and seat belt enforcement.  

Some of the areas these events took place were:

Highway 43/Sky Band Trail – Hollister

Arcola/Porter Road – Hollister

Highway 301 at the Edgecombe County line – Enfield

Justice Branch/Bacon Road – Littleton

Highway 48/Justice Branch Road – Littleton

Bellamy Mills/Low Ground Road – Enfield

Highway 158, Zoo Road to Everett School Road – Roanoke Rapids

Tenth Street/Bolling Road – Roanoke Rapids

Highway 158, Thelma Road to the town limits of Littleton

Highway 48, American Legion to Nation Road- Roanoke Rapids

Approximately 121 violations were cited during this time period. 

“We encourage everyone to wear your seat belt and drivers to watch your speed when traveling the roadways,” Davis said.

 The next NC Governor’s Highway Safety campaign will be Operation Crash Reduction October 7 through 13.
