Halifax Academy cruised to its third straight Halifax County Public Library Quiz Bowl victory this evening.

In claiming its third consecutive title its team members never lost a round in the double elimination competition and won the championship trophy over KIPP.

Halifax Academy will represent the county on March 23 at the ag center auditorium on Ferrell Lane in Halifax in the regional competition. That competition begins at 10 a.m.

The Halifax Academy team is made up of Colton Copeland, Margaret Hudson, Cameron Podruchny, Bailey Robertson, Maddie Suiter, Chloe Alston, Tyler Gupton and Katy Fulkerson.

“Halifax Academy, you all got it going on,” said county board of commissioners Chairman Vernon Bryant before the trophy presentation, “This is your third consecutive year.”

Copeland, who with Suiter is a co-captain of the team, chalked up the consistent performance to “us being at Halifax Academy with all our great teachers since kindergarten. They made the foundation for us to do this.”

Suiter said, “A lot of teachers are aware of Quiz Bowl and would give us references, especially our English teacher.”

Headmaster Mike Ferguson said, “I’m very proud of our students, proud of our coach for that accomplishment. I’m very proud of them. I appreciate the Halifax County Public Library. It’s a great opportunity.”

Kristie Harris, coach of the team, said, “We will meet again and discuss several topics.”

Those topics will cover a wide range of categories including science, math and history as well as others.
