Thursday evening saturated patrols in the city netted over a dozen citations including the discovery of two concealed weapons.
The patrols were a joint operation between the police department and the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant said.
“A saturated patrol is a proactive police tactic whereby several officers concentrate on a specific geographical area to reduce crime, enforce traffic laws, and look for specific dangerous public safety behaviors,” the chief said. “We have had several shots fired calls in the downtown area over the past two months. These saturated patrols are designed to eliminate fears, threats, and concerns.”
Guyant said the number one intent is to create a peaceful environment for the productive citizens that live in chaos. “We desperately want to eliminate chaos. Saturated patrols have a mission to disperse incorrigible actors from committing unreasonable and unwanted acts against a neighborhood full of hard-working and concerned Roanoke Rapids residents.”
The citations included the following:
Driving while license revoked
Open container
Expired registration
Expired operator's license
No operators license
