Weldon police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred around 1:45 this afternoon at Family Dollar.

As Weldon police conduct their investigation, Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith confirmed to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald of Ahoskie his detectives are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at Dollar General in Seaboard.

Both Weldon Chief Chris Davis and Smith said it is too early to link the robberies.

Davis said a man wearing possibly a black coat with a camouflage mask covering his face entered Family Dollar brandishing a black handgun with a silver slide. The man demanded money and left the store presumably on foot with an undisclosed sum. He was last seen headed east toward Highway 301.

Davis said the man stood around 6-feet tall and had a medium build, probably weighing around 180 pounds.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

Northampton did not immediately have any suspect information.

No one was hurt in either heist.
