A convicted felon was charged and arrested last week after he reported to law enforcement he had a weapon missing and it was discovered he was in possession of a firearm as well as multiple rounds of ammo.
Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Clifton Ray Neathery II, 55, of Roanoke Rapids, reported the theft of a firearm on October 22.
Investigation by Lieutenant Roy Rooks showed Neathery was a convicted felon who is forbidden to possess a firearm.
Continued investigation led to Rooks discovering Neathery had a firearm in his possession as well as the ammunition.
Rooks charged Neathery with possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was released on $5,000 bond and has a November 25 court date pending.
