A man is recovering from multiple stab and cut wounds he received following a fight that occurred in the Forest Hills Shopping Center parking lot Friday night.
The victim received serious and deep wounds, said Roanoke Rapids Police Department Investigator Bobby Martin, deep enough his lung was punctured,
The victim is currently in stable condition, Martin said, and one man, Michael Wayne Russell Jr., 32, of Roanoke Rapids has been arrested.
Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement that Officer Adam Salmon responded around 11:30 p.m. and found the victim was sitting near the entrance of Hux's Billiards with a serious injury.
Initial investigation showed that Russell and the victim got into an argument. Initially words were exchanged, Martin said, and from there it grew into a fistfight. A knife was then used and Martin said the victim was stabbed and cut multiple times in the lower midsection. The nature of the argument was not clear.
Martin charged Russell with assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Russell was given a $250,000 bond and March 25 court date.
Master Officer Gorton Williams and Deputy Chief Andy Jackson assisted with the investigation and arrest of Russell.
