A Garysburg man died this morning following a single-vehicle crash that is most likely attributed to an existing medical condition.

Sergeant B.W. Overton of the state Highway Patrol said Andrew Thomas Shearin, 57, was driving south just less than a mile from Garysburg on Highway 301 when he ran off the road the to the left, struck a ditch and then struck a flower bed in one yard before coming to rest in another yard.

Overton said Trooper W.C. Wheeler’s initial report shows the impact was not severe enough to cause Shearin’s death and the trooper learned the man had a pre-existing medical condition that may have contributed to crash, which occurred shortly before 5:30 this morning.

Overton said the highway patrol is waiting on the medical examiner’s report.
