A 21st birthday party last month in which numerous people were drinking underage remains under investigation by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
The party, which resulted in one 17-year-old going to the hospital after he fell face-first drunk and an 18-year-old girl rolling her car on Justice Branch Road, occurred on Aurelian Springs Road in the Littleton area.
The party resulted in Lieutenant Tim Harris of the sheriff’s office being struck by a vehicle.
Two people, including the person who allegedly struck Harris, were cited, the lieutenant said.
rrspin.com independently learned through court records that a third person was arrested.
The sheriff’s office responded to 7021 Aurelian Springs Road on December 23 to what Harris described as a huge 21st birthday party with between 140 and 150 people in attendance. Harris said half of those attending were drinking underage.
Harris, along with three deputies and two state Highway Patrol troopers, responded after receiving a loud music complaint. Before the loud music complaint Harris received a call from a deputy at the hospital telling him about a 17-year-old who was at the party and so drunk he fell face-first and was injured.
Harris said when officers arrived he was greeted by someone who said they were hosting the party and was trying to run off underage drinkers.
As that was going on someone, later identified as Brian Vick, 19, of Roanoke Rapids, was attempting to leave in a truck. Harris said he was leaving at a high rate of speed. One trooper had to run out of the way and Harris was struck but not seriously injured. Vick also hit two parked vehicles trying to flee.
He was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and resist, delay and obstruct.
When Harris went to the house to check identification there were people running into the woods.
Harris said Vick was so intoxicated that he vomited blood while waiting for EMS.
After Harris left the house the music was turned back up and a song by Corey Smith called ---- the Popo was heard playing.
In addition to Vick’s arrest, Gregory W. Edwards was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing them to have a place to consume alcohol.
rrspin.com also learned through independent investigation that Phillip Wayne Massey Jr. was charged with giving a malt beverage to a person under 21.
The three charged have February 6 court dates and Harris encourages any parent concerned that their children might have been at the party to call him at 252-583-8201.
