Forty-four breaking and entering cases spanning five counties are solved and the man considered the prime suspect is in custody.
Two other people allegedly involved in break-ins of homes in rural parts of Halifax, Martin, Nash, Edgecombe and Pitt counties are also in custody in the case.
Detective R. Somogyi of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said investigators from the different jurisdictions worked together to solve the case.
Somogyi said the investigation led to charges being brought against Anthony Hendricks, 26, of Rocky Mount, Roderick Hill, 22, of Enfield and Andrew Smith III, 16 of Rocky Mount.
Hendricks, considered the prime suspect in the case, and the others allegedly stole flat screen televisions, computers, jewelry, firearms and two family pets.
One of the dogs stolen was returned to its owners, Somogyi said. He said he couldn’t say with certainty the two animals stolen were taken for fighting purposes.
Hendricks received an $85,000 bond; Hill received a $166,000 bond and Smith a $1,000 bond.
All three have a December 12 court dates.
Many items have been returned to the victims as a result of this effort by the law enforcement agencies working together, Somogyi said, and investigation continues.
