A Margaretsville man has been arrested in a cutting and stabbing that occurred Monday night at the Community Marathon store outside Roanoke Rapids.
Two people were cut and stabbed in the matter that occurred around 6 p.m. at the store located at the Highway 158 and Zoo Road intersection, according to Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Martin said Deputy Matt Brown and Lieutenant Neil Aycock responded to what was originally reported as an armed robbery. They learned, however, it was a domestic dispute that resulted in the victim being stabbed and cut several times.

Gilchrist
Investigation revealed Anthony Gilchrist, 22, attacked the victim, his former girlfriend, inside the store. Another clerk tried to stop the attack and was cut during the dispute.
The intervening clerk was treated and released from Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Gilchrist fled the scene following the attack and Aycock relayed information to other agencies to be on the lookout for him. “Lieutenant Aycock’s quick dissemination of the information on the suspect and the car was key in the capture of the suspect,” Martin said.
Lieutenant Doug Pilgreen aided in this process and slightly more than an hour and a half later Gilchrist was stopped and taken into custody by the Emporia Police Department without incident.
He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and is in custody in Virginia awaiting extradition.
The main victim in the case was transported to HRMC and then transferred to another facility due to her injuries. She was last reported to be in stable condition.
Gilchrist is being held without the opportunity for bond and has a January 16 court date.
