A Weldon man is allegedly avoiding arrest after the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for his arrest on sex offenses with minor girls.

Robert Earl Smith, 43, is wanted for two counts of first-degree rape and one count of indecent liberties with a child.
Detective Roy Rooks said the offenses recently came to light when the victims reported them on August 17.
Detective O.L. Wiltsie said one victim was allegedly raped twice. He said Smith allegedly committed an inappropriate act with the second victim. Both victims in the case were underage females.
Wiltsie said he drew up the warrants on September 21 and law enforcement has been trying to locate Smith since the report was first received.
Wiltsie declined to discuss time frames of when the offenses allegedly occurred due to the sensitivity of the case.
Rooks said in a press release that Smith, who has ties to the Rocky Mount area, was last seen in Weldon on August 17 when the alleged offenses were reported.
He was driving a dark-colored Ford Fusion with North Carolina tags BCP-1164.
