A Littleton police officer was charged Wednesday night with a stealing a hubcap from a Roanoke Rapids car dealership to put on his personal car.

Greg Bolton, 31, has been charged with larceny and was released on his own recognizance for a May 11 court date.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Littleton Police Chief Mike Suggs relayed information to Lieutenant O.L. Morgan that Bolton, who lives in Gaston, had allegedly stolen a hubcap from White Motors.

Suggs did some investigation and further investigation by Morgan and Sergeant Richard White led to a warrant for Bolton’s arrest.

The larceny of the hubcap allegedly occurred over the weekend, Jackson said. The hubcap was stolen from a Malibu at the dealership.

The hubcap was recovered at Bolton’s residence on Craige Street in Gaston.

Suggs said Bolton is suspended. He has worked with the department for five years and is going into his sixth year.

Bolton served as chief from May to February until Suggs returned. He declined to discuss specifics of the case but said, “I’m extremely disappointed.”
