Three people were charged with assault and one with disorderly conduct Wednesday following a call on Chockoyotte Street.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Officer Gerald Morris arrived at Chockoyotte Street and found a victim was beaten, a tooth loose and his mouth bloodied.

Further investigation led to the arrests of James Lamont Short, 20, Alexander Clay Golden, 24, and Viola Short, 22, for assault inflicting serious injury and disorderly conduct.

As the three were arrested, Rosa Daniels Short continued hollering and was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Jackson could not specify the family relationship between the Shorts and it was unclear what the argument was about.

James Short and Viola Short were jailed on $1,000 bonds while Golden was jailed on $2,500 bond.

Rosa Short was jailed on $500 bond.

The victim required stitches in his lip.
