Nearing a year since inception, the Roanoke Valley Rocks campaign added its 21st fish, this one at Citizens Community Bank on Old Farm Road.

This fish was painted by artist Sarah Davis and featured a money hungry fish in the bank’s colors with its logo on a moneybag.

Dollars and coins adorn the fish as well as dollars and cents symbols. “I wanted something to show it was a bank. I wanted it to be something that was happy,” Davis said.

(The next fish unveiling will be at Becker Village Mall Friday at 4 p.m.)

The bank was pleased with the outcome. “We’re excited,” said Branch Manager Yvonne Thompson, who is also a member of the Halifax County Arts Council.

Asked what she liked the most, Thompson said, “I think the money bags overflowing because at CCB we can help your money grow.”

Thompson said the bank felt it important to be involved in a community program. “Because we’re a community bank it’s important for us to partner with tourism and the arts council.”

Christina Wells, director of tourism development and marketing for the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the program has been going along swimmingly. “I’ve been amazed by the various interpretations of the artists. Some use the fish as a canvas, some turn into something else entirely.”

There are some 40 fish allocated. “I’m really amazed by the enthusiasm and rapidity of how the whole thing is progressing. I think the community needed that celebration, something to embrace,” Wells said.

The bureau is currently working on a map of the location of the fish, which can also be found on its website.

There have also been requests for postcards, lapel pins and T-shirts.
