Beginning Friday, there will be several events in the Roanoke Valley to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Friday at 6 p.m. – NAACP Halifax County Branch will have its Annual Emancipation Proclamation Banquet at Mystique Multi-Venue Complex. Guest speaker will be State Conference President William Barber. Saturday  from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. — The town of Scotland Neck’s MLK Birthday Celebration at the Town Auditorium, 1310 Main Street.

Sunday at 4 p.m. — CDC Workers Unity Committee’s 19th Annual Martin Luther King Memorial Concert at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 421 South McDaniel Street, Enfield, featuring youth and gospel choirs from  the Whitakers, Battleboro and Enfield areas. Monday at 10 a.m. — The town of Littleton will have a celebration of Martin Luther King's life and legacy during their 6th Annual Martin Luther King Parade on at 10 a.m. The parade will start on Main Street in Littleton.

Monday at noon  — The 9th Annual MLK Program will be held at  Oak Grove Baptist Church, Littleton. Congressman G. K. Butterfield will be the guest speaker. For more information contact the 2011 MLK Committee Oak Grove Baptist Church at 252-532-0071.

Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — The Halifax County Black Caucus will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at the Tillery Community Center. Brunch will be provided for $12. Please call to confirm your attendance and brunch by Friday to Marilyn Harris at 252-537-6305.
