The mother of a child whom the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation alleges was sexually assaulted by her father was charged Tuesday with several counts related to the case, according to eCourts records.

Suzanne Armstrong Howard remains in custody at the Halifax County Detention Center, where she is being held under a $250,000 secured bond. She is scheduled for a February 26 district court date in Halifax County.

Howard faces charges of felony child abuse in a sexual abuse case, felony aiding and abetting, misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and failure to report a crime against a juvenile. SBI Agent Alyssa Myer is listed as the charging officer.

The felony child abuse warrant alleges that Howard allowed a sexual act upon a child under the age of 13 and notes that she was the child’s parent. The aiding and abetting count alleges that she aided and abetted the first-degree statutory rape of the underage victim.

The contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile count alleges that she caused and encouraged a child, who was 10 at the time, to be present at a residence in the 400 block of Vance Street in Roanoke Rapids during the alleged sexual assault, and that the juvenile could be adjudicated as abused.

The failure to report a crime against a juvenile count alleges that Howard failed to immediately report a sexual assault against her daughter despite knowing the crime was committed.

The case is tied to the arrest last month of a Gaston police officer who was charged with one count of statutory rape. The SBI said at the time that it received a request to investigate allegations against Roderick Lamar Howard. According to the arrest warrant, Roderick Howard, 34, is alleged to have carnally known a child under the age of 13. The offense date in the warrant was January 1, 2018.

Roderick Howard remains in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $750,000 secured bond, according to jail records.
