The Center for Energy Education will host two free half-day workshops on its Roanoke Rapids campus to share information about the role of Battery Energy Storage Systems as a solution to diversify powering the energy landscape.
Both offerings are set for Thursday, February 19, when industry experts from the Battery Innovation Center will provide details about the benefits and challenges of the technology option for stabilizing the grid, reducing energy costs and expanding access to homegrown power.

The first workshop, Battery Energy Storage Systems 101, runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and outlines the benefits of BESS related to safety, planning and permitting processes and operations.

The second workshop, Battery Energy Storage Systems 101 for First Responders, runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., when presenters will discuss battery safety and fire safety insights.
The professionals will discuss the importance of energy storage to minimize power outages, improve grid resiliency, reduce electricity costs, increase use of renewable energy and strengthen local economies.
“Battery energy storage systems are a growing option to help address capacity issues, reliability challenges and cost concerns,” said C4EE Executive Director Mozine Lowe. “Please join our conversation to better understand how these well-regulated, small-scale infrastructure, community-collaboration projects can provide safe energy solutions.”
The workshops, which include lunch, are free and open to the public.
The discussions will include time to ask questions and engage with the Battery Innovation Center experts after the presentation.
