Halifax Community College President Patrena Benton Elliott has been appointed to the Association of Community College Trustees Advisory Committee of Presidents.

Dr. Jee-Hang Lee, president of the association, appointed Elliott.

The ACCT is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern more than 1,000 community, technical, and junior colleges in the U.S. and beyond.

The advisory committee is a group of community college presidents who advise the ACCT on matters related to community college governance and policy, representing the perspectives of college leaders.

Elliott brings 30 years of experience in higher education to the advisory committee.

Since January 1, 2023, she has served as the sixth and first female president of Halifax Community College.

Elliott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and both a Master of Science in Adult Education and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

"I am honored to be appointed to the ACCT Advisory Committee of Presidents, where I look forward to collaborating with my peers to advance the mission of community colleges and champion student success,” she said.
