A man who was being served with commitment papers for child support was found to allegedly be in possession of 75 bindles of heroin, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

The arrest of 38-year-old Mario Marelle Scott occurred shortly after 2 p.m. today as Sergeant C.E. Carroll was in Scotland Neck.

Carroll had an outstanding commitment order on Scott from Edgecombe County, according to Captain Anzell Harris.

Carroll arrested Scott and further investigation resulted in the seizure of the heroin, a Tramadol pill and more than $1,000 in cash. Wax paper and rubber bands were also seized.

Harris described Scott, who has pending court dates in Halifax County on larceny counts, as an alleged mid-level heroin dealer. He is originally from Scotland Neck and the sheriff's office has reportedly received several drug complaints on him. Harris said he also has pending drug cases in Edgecombe County as well as with the Scotland Neck Police Department.

Harris could not say whether Scott reportedly works in conjunction with other alleged heroin dealers in the town.

Scott was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin; possess heroin; prescription label not present; simple possession of schedule III and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed on $100,000 secured bond.

The value of the 75 bindles on the street is estimated at $1,500.

“Thanks to Sergeant Carroll’s promptness, 75 bindles of heroin is off the street in our community,” Harris said in a statement.
