Results of the November 4 general election became official today with the canvass of the ballots in Halifax.

The closest race, that of the Weldon City Schools Board of Education, changed by only a few votes, but did not change the outcome.

Edith Jenkins, an incumbent who ran with three other incumbents — only one of them winning — had a final vote tally of 801, losing out to challengerTiffany Hale who collected 805 votes.

County Board of Elections Director Kristin Scott said Jenkins has until 5 p.m. Monday to formally ask for a recount. As of this afternoon, she had not requested one.

With canvass of the votes, challenger Tank Williams was the top vote-getter in that race, collecting 1,345.

The other winners in that race were:

• Incumbent Tanya Byrd-Robinson with 1,057

• Challenger Chester Alston Jr. with 954

• Hale with with 805

The canvass also revealed the number of write-in votes collected by Michael Hawkins and James Mills, whose names were not on the ballot, but who filed to run as write-ins in the county commissioners race.

Mills ended up with 4,162 votes, while Hawkins received 4,176.

Their write-in campaign, however, was not enough to keep May primary winners Vernon Bryant, Rives Manning and Patrick Qualls from winning in the general election.

The final totals for the three winners in the commissioners race are:

• Bryant with 10,480

• Manning with 9,225

• Qualls with 8,964
