HBCU fair, send-off set

The Roanoke Valley Historically Black Colleges and Universities Collaborative Association will host a college fair and college send-off on August 7 at Weldon Elementary School from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We are very excited about hosting the college fair for all prospective students and we also want support our college bound kids and wish them well as we send them off to their respective colleges and universities,” said Georgette Kimball, president, of the Roanoke Valley HBCU Collaborative.

Rising high school juniors and seniors interested in attending or learning more about Historically Black Colleges and Universities are invited and encouraged to attend. Information about these schools will be shared with participants. Enrollment advisors from a number of HBCUs will be on site to speak with prospective students and parents, offering information on undergraduate academic programs.

Following the college fair will be a student send-off from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. celebrating students who have committed to attending an HBCU this fall. Goodie items, door prizes and give-away items will be raffled to incoming HBCU freshman. “This event will be a celebration of our HBCU family represented across the Roanoke Valley,” said Kimball. “There will be food, music, vendors, and lots of information students interested in being a part of a legacy built by historically Black institutions of higher learning.”
