The Roanoke Rapids High School Class of 2014 was awarded more than $1 million in scholarships today during the school's annual senior awards banquet.

"The grand total was $1,926,733 in scholarships to our students. We are so proud of each of them. Our hope is that students leaving RRHS will understand what they're capable of and use that to be successful in whatever career path they choose," said Angie Lassiter, guidance counselor.

Students received awards for honors in English, math, science, foreign language, sports, ROTC, healthcare, and other courses.

"I am so honored to serve the senior class of 2014 and so very proud of their accomplishments," said Tammi Williams, principal.

Williams also named Patrick Fiorilli as the class valedictorian and Terry Stauffer as salutatorian. Graduation is scheduled June 13.
