A Scotland Neck man was treated and released from a local hospital this morning after his girlfriend allegedly struck him in the head with a hammer.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Sergeant Willie Murphy responded to a residence on Allison Drive around 12:30 today following a report of a domestic disturbance.

Investigation by Murphy led to the arrest of Brenda Lowe, 51, on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

She was jailed without the opportunity for bond under domestic violence laws and has a January 15 court date.
