A board of elections meeting planned today to allow James Mills to protest the results of the November 5 municipal election was postponed and will be held next Tuesday.

Mills lost to incumbent Leonard Bunting in the Scotland Neck mayoral race and will have a chance to formally prove his opponent violated buffer zones regulations when the board of elections convenes at 10 a.m. in the historic courthouse in Halifax.

The board last week threw out a complaint by Mills that a voting machine malfunction altered outcomes when a jam occurred.

A recount determined four ballots affected by the jam were not enough to change the outcome of the election.

Precinct workers have been requested to attend the meeting to tell what they observed.

Bunting defeated Mills by a 52.35 percent to 47.50 percent margin, according to certified results.
