LANCASTER, SC —The Louisburg College men's soccer team won the 2013 Region X Tournament, Sunday afternoon, as they defeated Spartanburg Methodist College, 3-0, in Lancaster, SC. The title is the second straight for the Hurricanes and they now advance to the Southeast District championship where they will take on Eastern Florida State College.

Louisburg outshot the Pioneers 11-7 and LC keeper Brian Howard(Roanoke Rapids, NC/Roanoke Rapids HS) was perfect in net, making three saves, earning the shutout.

Region X Player of the Year Hassan Kouyateh (Greensboro, NC/Page HS) got the Canes on the board as he scored the only goal of the first half. The game's opening score was set up by Eduardo Alvarez(Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Golden HS).

Bakawasu Kinteh (Duluth, GA/Lambert HS) opened up the scoring in the second frame as he was assisted by Adrian Gonzales (Fuquay Varina, NC/Fuquay Varina HS). Nikolai Hammer (Clearwater, FL/Countryside HS) scored the final goal of the championship game as he was set in on net by Amardo Oakley (Lorton, VA/Mt. Vernon HS).

 

The Hurricanes will travel to Cocoa, Florida next weekend to take on Eastern Florida who defeated Georgia Perimeter College in the Region 8/17 Tournament, also played this weekend. The winner of next Saturday's game will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament, November 18-23, in Tyler, Texas.
