A 17-year-old youth was shot and killed Thursday night at the Spruce Court housing complex in Weldon, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is not immediately releasing the name of the male teen.

Major Anzell M. Harris said deputies responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. and found the teen on the ground with a gunshot wound. Halifax County EMS confirmed the teen was deceased.

The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating and no further details were available as of this report.
