Man charged in Wednesday shooting

A Wednesday night shooting on Sam Powell Dairy Road has led to the arrest of a 73-year-old Roanoke Rapids man.

According to a statement from Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp, deputies responded to a shooting call around 7 p.m.

Investigator Chris Scott and deputies Danny Radford and Jeff Allen contacted the victim, who was shot in the leg but did not sustain life-threatening injuries. He was treated at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Jenkins

Lieutenant George Evans located Joe Mack Jenkins and further investigation by Investigator Joseph Sealey, Scott and the deputies who arrived on the scene led him to being charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Jenkins received a $20,000 bond and a September 11 court date.

Tripp said the shooting apparently arose out of a domestic dispute but could not immediately elaborate.
