Lieutenant Stevie Salmon of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the helicopter developed a mechanical problem and the pilot opted to land in the field just outside the Aurelian Springs community.

None of the six crew members were injured. A second helicopter was scheduled to arrive with parts so the craft could be repaired onsite.

It was not clear where the chopper was headed or where it had come from.
