Williams earns another Rookie of Year award

ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman women's basketball player Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) was named the D3hoops.com All-South Region Rookie of the Year. Williams was also named to the All-South Region Second Team.

Williams had a record-breaking rookie season, she averaged 18.5 points per game and 13.1 rebounds per game throughout the season. Williams led the ODAC in rebounds per game, total rebounds (367), offensive rebound (136), defensive rebounds (231) and points per 40 minutes (26.2). She finished the season with an ODAC best 23 double-doubles.

Williams and the Yellow Jackets finished the season 16-12, finished fifth in the ODAC and made an appearance in the ODAC semifinals. She broke the R-MC single-season rebound record, recording 367 total rebounds. Williams also broke into the top 10 for single-season records in three other categories. Williams had a career high 30 points in the final regular season game of the year against Hollins. She had her best rebounding night in the ODAC quarterfinals with 22 against Eastern Mennonite. She picked up the ODAC Rookie of the Year award and was also named to the All-ODAC First Team.
