The Varsity Roanoke Rapids Lady Yellow Jackets opened their 2017 season at home Wednesday night hosting the Northern Nash Knights.

The JV game witch started at 4 PM was played on a time limit trying to get the varsity game in before the storm arrived to Roanoke Rapids. But the weather won with the game being to suspended due to the weather and will be continued Thursday at Northern Nash. Per the NCHSAA rules:

Suspended Games: North Carolina has adopted the suspended game rule, mandatory in all regular season and state playoff games. “A game called for any reason, where a winner cannot be determined will be treated as a suspended game. (1) If the game is to be completed it will be continued from the point of suspension, with the line up and batting order of each team the same as the lineup and batting order at the moment of suspension, subject to the rules of the game.

The Jackets were down 2-3 before the thunderstorm covered the RRHS softball field. The Jackets travel to the Knights Thursday and will continue the suspended game after the JV game and before they face the Knights for game two of the season.
