The raid this morning also shows a continued commitment to use the resources of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office in these operations, City County Drug Task Force Captain A.M. Harris said.
The resources used in the 7 a.m. raid on Heritage Lane were Corporal Dustin Newsome and his dog, Duri, who were certified last month.
Duri is certified in narcotics detection, tracking and article searches. “Duri will be a valuable asset in future task force operations,” Harris said.
In a statement Harris said drug complaints and a high volume of traffic in and out of Music City
led Agent J.R. Matthews to a residence in the area and the application of a search warrant.
During the search of the residence with the assistance of Duri, agents seized approximately 9 grams of marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia.
The paraphernalia was a 12-ounce can with a false compartment which contained the marijuana, digital scales, three packs of cigarillos, a box of sandwich bags, and a razor with a white powder substance which tested positive for the presence of cocaine.
Matthews arrested and charged Joseph Leon Shaw, 42, for possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance.
Shaw received a $5,000 bond with an April 26 court date.
