Williams closes regular season with season high 30 points

HOLLINS, Va. – Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) scored a season high 30 points in the 77-63 victory over Hollins. R-MC concluded the season with a 14-11 record and 8-8 ODAC record.

The R-MC women's basketball team secures fifth place and will host a first round playoff game against Hollins on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Crenshaw Gym.

Randolph-Macon trailed 11-6 three minutes into the opening quarter. R-MC would then go on an 18-5 run in the final seven minutes of the quarter to take a 24-15.

R-MC and Hollins both scored 16 points in the second quarter. The Yellow jackets would outscore Hollins in both quarters in the second half to win the contest 77-63.

Williams went 13 of 18 from the floor and 4 of 5 from the free throw stripe to get to a season best 30 points. She added 12 rebounds to collect her ODAC leading 21st double-double of the season.

Junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) had an outstanding all-around game scoring 18 points, dishing out six assists and recording nine rebounds.

Also scoring in double-digits was freshman Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen), who went 5-8 from the floor and 2-3 from the free throw line.

The Yellow Jackets shot 49.2% from the floor, going 32-65. R-MC dominated the boards, snagging 46 rebounds compared to Hollins' 26.

The R-MC bench scored 25 points in the game, Ross led the bench with 12.

R-MC were picked ninth in the preseason poll and won three of its last four ODAC games to finish in fifth place, winning the tiebreaker over Virginia Wesleyan. Randolph-Macon will rematch Hollins at 7 p.m. in Crenshaw Gymnasium for an ODAC first round playoff game on Tuesday, February 21. 

 

The Randolph-Macon women’s basketball team will host a first round ODAC Tournament game on Tuesday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. R-MC earned the #5 seed in the 2017 ODAC tournament and will play host to #12 Hollins in Crenshaw Gym.

Admission to the game is $5. Children under 12 as well as R-MC and Hollins students will be admitted for free. Doors will open in Crenshaw at 6:00 p.m.

Winners of the game will play against #4 Eastern Mennonite on Friday, February 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center.
